Missionaries - Spiritual Thoughts

Missionaries in front of the Meridian Idaho Temple

The Spirit Missionaries carry when they share a spiritual thought is one of my favorite things to read from thier emails they share weekly.

Spiritual Thought Elder Gavin Root- December 9, 2025 -  Wisconsin Milwaukee Mission                 This week we had a guy pull up to our branch FHE. He told us his story of why he was there. He said I had prayed to God for help. Just a few hours later missionaries came knocking on my door, and they hadn't came in like 5 months. He was amazed but also wondered how they possibly could have came right after his prayer. The FHE lesson was on prayer also, so that couldn't have been better. I was so excited when he told us this. We are now meeting with him and hopefully he can progress. This story shows that God really does answer and hear all of our prayers.

Spiritual Thought by Elder Carson Corder - December  9, 2025  - Mexico Mission                            Even just this time I have been here I have truly got to see the love God has for all of his children. No matter rich or poor, bond or free, young or old. The love of God is magnificent and eternal and no matter what we do on this earth, that love he has for you won't change. I also testify that God has been preparing me for this mission. I get a lot of compliments from my companion and others that my Spanish is super good and I am super spiritual and humble (even though it might not sound like it right now) I say thank you and usually shrug off the compliments. But then it really got me thinking about me. It is not me. It is God. I have had a lot of hard experiences in my life and he is only constant in it. His son Jesus Christ is my savior and I am nothing without him but because he sacrificed his life for me I am everything to him. He is loving and merciful and I KNOW that. I am so spiritual and humble and ready for my mission because of him. Heavenly Father is my God and his son is my savior. As I continually convert daily and align my will with his I can live with them again. In the name of Jesus Christ Amen.

Spiritual thought by Elder Fluckinger - December 9, 2025 - Texas Dallas Mission
Im gonna share a quote from a Devtional my mom shared with me called Lessons on Endurance by J. TY Hopkins.
"The process, not the product—including all of the positive and negative experiences—helped to shape me, and ultimately that process led me to the finish line with more joy."
I just love this qoute, it's the process not the product. While out here on a mission you often time get stuck on the "what" is gonna happen after the two years is up. And this talk has made me realize to slow down and enjoy the process. How am I supposed to become what I wanna become if I only focus on what I wanna become rather than how will I become. I think Brother Hopkins explains this very well later in his Devotional.
"While the rough trail demands our attention, we have to give some consideration to the flowers. It must be intentional, or it will not happen."...
"There will be rough terrain, blisters, and crashes, but there will also be a meadow of flowers. Will we see it? We must pay attention to and appreciate the flowers, and we must learn from the rough trail. The process, not the product, will allow us to find joy on our way to the finish."
I think this qoute awesome. Life is hard, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. But through these hard things we grow and we get stronger but most importantly we can point out the good things more easily. Find those good things and let them bring you joy in the hard things. And this is where it gets good. Once you can find joy in the hard things your "how will I become" will turn into "how can I help other become." AMEN

Spiritual thought by Elder Austin Belnap - December 9, 2025 - Peru Lima Northeast Mission
This week I had a little more time to think about things and something I kept thinking about was the grace of God. What is so humbling and loving about the atonement of Jesus Christ is that we are automatically saved by his grace if we chose to accept it. It is free for every single person in the world because our God is so loving. I invite you guys this Christmas season to think a little bit more about how Jesus Christ died for you specifically because He loves you!!

Spiritual Thought by Sister Evka Bates - March 19, 2024

YOU are strong, talented, smart, brave, funny, loving, outgoing, and just THE BEST!

The world is SO creative in making us think horrible things about ourselves… am I doing enough, everyone hates me, why am I not as good looking as others, I accomplished NOTHING today, no one cares about me, i have no purpose… the list can go on and on and ON!

Heavenly Father created you perfectly! your quirks and all! there is not a single thing about you that He doesn't LOVE! sometimes it's super hard to see ourselves as Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ do!

Think of ONE thing that Heavenly Father or Jesus Christ would say to you if they were standing right beside you! maybe even write it down and stick it on your mirror! & BELIEVE IT!!! because it's true!!

If you can't think of anything here are some things I KNOW they would say to you:

  • you are an AMAZING mom, dad, brother, sister, cousin, wife, husband, FRIEND!🩷

  • I LOVE YOU, and I'm so proud of you!

  • keep working hard! YOU GOT THIS!πŸ‘❤️

  • THANK YOU for serving those around you!

  • you are fulfilling your PURPOSE!

  • you are MINE! I will never leave you alone!

  • YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL / HANDSOME!

  • you can do anything you put your mind to❤️

  • YOU ARE ENOUGH FOR ME!

I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ LOVE each and every one of their children! Heavenly Father created you perfectly!!

Spiritual Thought by Sister Evka Bates - February 28, 2024 - Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission

WHO MADE YOUR WEEK AMAZING?

I'm so thankful for all the things people do that make me smile and laugh! some days are hard, but there is ALWAYS something good in every day! it's sooo easy for us to focus on the bad! because Satan is going to be miserable forever, he seeks to make us miserable too (2 Nephi 2:18 | Book of Mormon). we can't let him have power over us! he wants more than ANYTHING to make us sad and lonely and angry, because he will FOREVER be sad and lonely and angry! he is jealous that we're here on this Earth, he's jealous that we get to experience JOY and HAPPINESS! we chose to come to this Earth to use our agency for good! I invite you all to look for the good in every situation! MAYBE EVEN WRITE ONE THING DOWN THAT MADE YOUR DAY AMAZING! I have seen such a big difference in my days when I focus on the good, and don't let things of the world and Satan steal my joy! ALSOOOOO, you can make a drastic difference in someone else's day! look for opportunities as small as smiling at someone at the grocery store, complimenting someone you walk by, reaching out to a friend you haven't talked to in a while, or giving someone a hug!! YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Spiritual Thought by Hermana Rylee Hadlock - April 8th 2024- Colorado Denver North Mission
YA'LL! It is so important to be reading the scriptures everyday! When we are nourishing our testimonies of Jesus Christ we will come closer to God. When we have a strong foundation built on the saviors teachings we will be ready when trials and temptations come our way. Your connection with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ will help you and it will strengthen you. Read your scriptures everyday!

Love you lots.🩷

Spiritual Scripture Thought by Elder Hayden Marshall - June 26, 2025 - Malaysian
Alma 31:38 "And the Lord provided for them that they should hunger not, neither should they thirst; yea, and he also gave them strength, that they should suffer no manner of afflictions, save it were swallowed up in the joy of Christ. Now this was according to the prayer of Alma; and this because he prayed in faith"
July 3, 2025
Mosiah 3:17 And moreover, I say unto you, that there shall be no other name given nor any other way nor means whereby salvation can come unto the children of men, only in and through the name of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent.

"One's life cannot be both faith-filled and stress-free" -Elder Holland
This qoute is perfect for the New Year's. Everyone creates there own goals at the start of the year to hopefully be a better person by the next year. Most people a few months or even weeks forget about this goal. This results in maybe more time or maybe less stress or some sort of relief of forgetting about it. But I would beg to differ, forgetting about that goal has resulted in a loss of hope, confidence, and most importantly a loss in completion. Which I would say adds up to more stress then sticking with it and becoming the better person. I think Holland says it best, use your faith, stick with that goal to become more like Christ and ultimately, life will not be stress-free but stress-controlled.
Love Y'all so much and I appreciate the support!

Spiritual Thought by Sister Kaya Higbee -January 12, 2026- Philippines
One of the things President Foster explained during Zone Conference was how we have to have a desire first before setting a goal and making a plan for that goal. I decided to do a further dive into that this week as I studied about our desires and how they affect everything we do. I came across an article from the October 1996 General Conference titled, "According to the Desire of [Our] Hearts" by Elder Neal A. Maxwell, and it was INCREDIBLE! I dug around in the archives of Gospel Library to find it, and if you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend giving it a read! It would take me forever to share all my favorite quotes and insights, but I'll just share one that really struck me. Speaking about how desires determine outcomes, Elder Maxwell stated, "It's up to us. God will facilitate, but He will not force." God doesn't force us to follow Him. If He did, it would be completely contrary to His plan. Likewise as a missionary, my purpose isn't to force the gospel upon the lives of others but rather to invite them to have a desire to accept Jesus Christ and His Atonement into their lives. As we facilitate the discussions and bear testimony of the truths we've come to know for ourselves, the Spirit will convince others to not only have a desire to change but to make covenants with our Heavenly Father in order to receive His eternal blessings. "Therefore, what we insistently desire, over time, is what we will eventually become and what we will receive in eternity."
Thank you for all of your love, prayers, and support! I hope this week is truly a wonderful one for you all and that you all find the joy in every day! Never forget that Jesus loves you!

I had a promting this week to knock this guy's house that we haven't been able to contact yet. Sadly, he didn't answer again, but his neighbor was outside shoveling snow, so we decided to help him. We ended up teaching him about the Book of Mormon, and scheduled a time to come back. Promptings from the spirit are real, and everyone gets them. You just need to really listen and act immediately!

Spiritual Thought  by Elder Quaid Gallup- Barbados - January 12,2026
2 Nephi 2:2
"thou knowest the greatness of God; and he shall consecrate thine afflictions for thy gain."
All the ups and all the downs are for our benefit. We learn we grow we find joy. Without the bad there cannot be the good and we are here to find joy and our afflictions we learn from and help us find that joy.

Spiritual Thought by Elder Brandon Settle-    January 13, 2026                                                            Moroni 9:6 -- "And now, my beloved son, notwithstanding their hardness, let us labor diligently; for if we should cease to labor, we should be brought under condemnation; for we have a labor to perform whilst in this tabernacle of clay, that we may conquer the enemy of all righteousness, and rest our souls in the kingdom of God."

Ive studied a lot about diligence this week and its really amazed me. The Lord will ALWAYS bless us, in WHATEVER we do. Whether we're training for a race, studying for a hard test or anything else. But we cant access his blessings until we can honestly say that weve given our all. But once we have done all we can do, we've prayed and are worthy, theres nothing we cant accomplish. Be diligent in all things.

Spiritual Thought by Racheal Hammond -Kansas- January 13, 2026
God's timing really is so inspired, and He loves each and every one of us. He knows our needs intimately and knows exactly how to meet them. We often disregard or even discredit God's answers to our prayers. I know when I was praying and fasting about college and what to pursue, I was receiving NOTHING....and looking back, that was an answer to my prayers. I've learned that college is important, but that I can learn and pursue anything as long as I am also pursuing Christ in all that I do. It helped me to reset because I had started to think that choosing which college I went to was my entire life and that it would determine the rest of my life! And while I was doing good in trying to include God in the decisions I was trying to make, I had let college take the place in my brain of something way more important, and that's an eternal perspective. God truly answered my prayers but it was 100% not at the time I wanted or in a way I expected. πŸ˜… I have often done that, put God in a box (in my mind), and focused so hard on watching for what I thought the answer would be that I missed the whole point and didn't credit God when the answer did come. If I had not given making that decision so much power over my mind and stress levels, I probably would have seen God's answer to my prayers way sooner and not have had to suffer in stress as long. God knows way more than us and it sounds silly but life is so much easier when we "let" God know more/better and like Russell M. Nelson encouraged constantly, to 'Let God Prevail' in our lives. If Jesus is on top in your life, and you are with Him, you will come out on top in life too, even when it doesn't look like it in our limited, human perspective.

I love yall so much and I was so happy to get some emails back. (Pday was today because of the temple, its not been moved to tuesday for any other week). Happy trials and tribulations everyone!!!!

Spiritual thought by Elder Verl Hansen - Ohio, Cincinnati- February 2, 2026
So first off i wanna make a statement....god doesnt want us to do what is right. Now before you email me telling me im preaching anti, let me explain.
Our agency from the beginning of time was one of the most important things about gods plan. Being able to choose good from evil so that we could experience true joy through christ. 2 nephi 2:22-25 really explains this well for us.
So to experience this joy we need to use our agency, and we will receive the consequences of our actions. So now let me say, god wants us to CHOOSE to do what is right. When we choose to make good choices and be obedient to the lord we will have lasting joy in this world.

Spiritual Thought by Elder Root - February 16, 2026 - Wisconsin Milwaukee Mission
2 Nephi 10:23: "Therefore, cheer up your hearts, and remember that ye are free to act for yourselves—to choose the way of everlasting death or the way of eternal life." We have all been gifted the amazing gift of agency, and I promise that as you use this gift righteously, you will be able to see more joy in your life, and see that the good things you do will also bless the lives of those you help!!

Spiritual Thought by Elder Quaid Gallup- Barbados- February 16, 2026
"Our loving Father oversaw the Creation of this very earth for the express purpose of providing an opportunity for you and for me to have the stretching and refining experiences of mortality, the chance to use our God-given moral agency to choose Him, to learn and grow, to make mistakes, to repent, to love God and our neighbour, and to one day return home to Him."-Elder Patrick Kearon

Spiritual Thought by Sister Kaya HIgbee - Philippines - February 16, 2026
Valentines Day, I decided to read some older conference talks about love to better understand why charity is one of the greatest attributes of Jesus Christ. As I was reading through some talks from the 1980's, I came across a quote from President Monson that I really liked from his October 1985 address. "True love continues to be an outward expression of an inward conviction." When we truly love the Savior, we will want to show our love through the way we live. When we feel of the Savior's love for us, we will want to share that love with others. As I contemplated this idea, I was reminded of a part of a song from The Sound of Music. "A bell is no bell till you ring it, a song is no song till you sing it, and love in your heart wasn't put there to stay- love isn't love till you give it away." I am thankful to be able to share the love of God with the people of the Philippines here on my mission! I can honestly say that I love these people, whether they accept the gospel or not! I am personally thankful for the evidence of the love of my Heavenly Parents and Jesus Christ. I am thankful for the love of my earthly family and friends who share their love and kindness to me from wherever they are in the world. Ultimately, I know for certain that Heavenly Father loves and cares for His children individually, and this week was just one of many in which I have seen His love made manifest! I love being a missionary, and I love doing the Lord's work to spread His love to others! I testify that the love of God is truly felt when sharing it with others! May the Lord bless you all in your efforts to share the love of God with someone this week, even if it's through the simplest of ways!

Spiritual thought Elder Calvin Kimball- February 16, 2026
2 Nephi 26:24 "He doeth not anything save it be for the benefit of the world; for he loveth the world, even that he layeth down his own life that he may draw all men unto him. Wherefore, he commandeth none that they shall not partake of his salvation."
I just love this scripture because of the simplicity. God loves us and because of his love, he wants us to come unto him. His love is unconditional. Not based on our merits or anything we can do. If we come unto him, we can fully partake of all the blessings he has waitimg for us.

Alma 48:17 says Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men. Im tryna be like Moroni in this chapter. Think about how powerful we could be if we just chose to be a little bit more like Captain Moroni. The adversary cannot compete with the power that the lord holds. I love the lord. I know that EVERYTHING is made right through Jesus Christ. He can take every weakness and imperfection and make us whole. I encourage you all to turn into him and he will embrace you with open arms. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Mosiah 4:10 "And again, believe that ye must repent of your sins and forsake them, and humble yourselves before God; and ask in sincerity of heart that he would forgive you; and now, if you believe all these things see that ye do them." Pretty simple. God is loving and merciful. He will forgive you of you forsake your sins with full sincerity and keep trying.

Spiritual Thought by Hermana Avery Kimball - Alabama Mission   March 3, 2026
This week in one of my classes (MTC) we were talking about prayer. One of the things we talked about that really stuck out to me was that we should always have a prayer in our hearts. Heavenly Father wants to hear from us, and He loves us so much! We are His children. No matter where we go or what we are doing, we can always talk to Him. I know that He cares about each and everyone of us and He is SO happy when we talk to Him.

Brad Wilcox spoke to us, and it was super good. He gave us an example of how we should properly invite a person to be baptized. He also talked a lot about grace, and the atonement of Jesus Christ. One thing I remember him saying is "His merits mean he loves us, his mercy means he loves us just the way we are, and his grace means he loves us enough to help us change."
2 Nephi 2:8 "Wherefore, how great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth, that they may know that there is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God, save it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah, who layeth down his life according to the flesh, and taketh it again by the power of the Spirit, that he may bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, being the first that should rise."

Moroni 9: 25-26
25 My son, be faithful in Christ; and may not the things which I have written grieve thee, to weigh thee down unto death; but may Christ lift thee up, and may his sufferings and death, and the showing his body unto our fathers, and his mercy and long-suffering, and the hope of his glory and of eternal life, rest in your mind forever.

26 And may the grace of God the Father, whose throne is high in the heavens, and our Lord Jesus Christ, who sitteth on the right hand of his power, until all things shall become subject unto him, be, and abide with you forever. Amen.

Spiritual Thought by Elder Carson Corder - March 2, 2026
There is a quote that I read in the 2025 April General Conference from a talk by Elder Neil L. Andersen that says, "Although we cannot change the past, God can heal the past." I testify of the healing power of Jesus Christ. He is the Savior of all life, he is the Savior of my life. Life is hard and CHOOSING to walk with Christ is a life long effort, but he knows you, he died for you, and he LIVES for you. Christ's love is eternal for you, so you can do anything through him and with a little patience. I testify of these things in the name of my Savior Jesus Christ Amen

Mosiah 3:7
And lo, he shall suffer temptations, and pain of body, hunger, thirst, and fatigue, even more than man can suffer, except it be unto death; for behold, blood cometh from every pore, so great shall be his anguish for the wickedness and the abominations of his people.

Spiritual Thought by Elder Carson Corder- March 16, 2026
My invitation for all of you is to put more effort into focusing your life on Jesus Christ. What things can you change in your life right now to be more aligned with Jesus Christ. You can always do better and be better when you have the desire to change. I testify that he is ALWAYS with us. He is ALWAYS helping us, and he WILL ALWAYS help us. He loves you and desires for you to be better so put more effort in for him, because he put all his effort in for you. I testify that as you do that little by little you will have more joy in your life and more happiness no matter the circumstances around you. I share these things in the name of Jesus Christ Amen

Alma 32:21
"And now as I said concerning faith—faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true."
This is a scripture i shared a lot with people this week because some of there definitions of faith were a bit interesting. Having faith is something that matters, especially on a mission. It's not just faith, it's faith in Jesus Christ. Ive seen times when I have faith and when I don't. I notice that when I do have faith in Jesus Christ I receive more blessings and opportunities to talk to people. So have faith in Jesus Christ!

This week i was reading in mosiah and found a scripture I think would be good for mother's day!
Mosiah 4:15, "But ye will teach them to walk in the ways of truth and soberness; ye will teach them to love one another, and to serve one another." When I read this i thought of my mom, because she has does such a great job teaching me all these things. Im so grateful for the example she has been to me my entire life! Looking back i wish I took more time to serve my mom, because she has done so much for me! So to all you young ones, do something nice for your mom today! (Even though mothers day was yesterday)

Mosiah 13
12 And now, ye remember that I said unto you: Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of things which are in heaven above, or which are in the earth beneath, or which are in the water under the earth.
13 And again: Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them; for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquities of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generations of them that hate me;
Matthew 21
12 ¶ And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

Spiritual Thought by Elder Calvin Kimball - Peru Lima Limatambo Mission -  May 12th, 2026
Alma 40:11 "Now, concerning the state of the soul between death and the resurrection—Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life."

I think this scripture just helps to keep everything in perspective. Remember what it is that actually matters. Sometimes it can be a reminder to not worry so much about unimportant things. Other times maybe we should be a little bit more focused on bigger things.
